Course Overview

Classes at The Enchanted House

The Enchanted House offers two types of sewing education: project-based garment construction classes and pattern drafting & draping study.

Each category serves a different learning goal. Students may choose the approach that best fits their interests and experience, rather than following a single fixed path.

Garment Construction Project Classes

These project-based classes focus on building strong garment sewing skills through the completion of finished pieces. Techniques are taught as they naturally appear in the construction process, making them approachable and beginner-friendly.

Suggested Progression

LevelCourse
BeginnerSkirt Project
Beginner–IntermediatePants Project
IntermediateBodice Project
Intermediate–AdvancedDress Project

Basic sewing machine familiarity is recommended for all garment construction classes.

Pattern Drafting & Draping Study

Pattern drafting and draping courses focus on understanding how garments are developed, shaped, and adjusted beyond construction alone.

These courses emphasize creative exploration, fit, and garment development rather than step-by-step project completion. Pattern drafting is taught from the beginning, and prior drafting experience is not required.
A basic familiarity with garment pattern structure is a plus.

Due to the individualized and exploratory nature of this work, instruction is offered primarily as individual sessions, with small group options available upon request.

Pattern Drafting & Draping

This course introduces pattern drafting and draping in a hands-on, flexible way, focusing on how garments are developed from an idea to a working pattern.

Pattern drafting is taught from the beginning, making the course accessible to students who are new to drafting.A basic familiarity with garment pattern structure is a plus, but not a requirement.

What’s most important for this course is a strong interest and curiosity. Pattern drafting requires time, patience, and active problem-solving, and students who enjoy exploring how garments are built will benefit the most from this process.

While draping is traditionally taught after flat pattern drafting, it is introduced earlier in this course to make the learning experience more intuitive and engaging. Draping helps students better understand shape, proportion, and garment balance, and supports the drafting process rather than replacing it.

Instruction is highly adaptable and can be tailored to individual goals.
Students may choose to focus on both pattern drafting and draping, or on draping only, depending on their interests and learning objectives.

Because this course is exploratory and highly individualized, it is offered primarily as one-on-one sessions.
Small group classes may be arranged when multiple students enroll together.
